Have you ever had one of those days where you just can’t seem to get focused at work? We’ve all been there, and it can be difficult to overcome, but there are a number of ways to overcome the perils of procrastination and take charge of your To-Do list.
Take Regular Breaks
It’s important that you take regular breaks to avoid fatigue, headaches, stress and inevitable procrastination. Arrange your day based on specifically timed working sessions to ensure that you can stay focused on the task at hand, while also making time for a much-needed refresh.
Increasing activity levels at work will also help to improve focus and productivity, so use one or two of your breaks to take a short walk around your office.
Prioritise tasks effectively
The key to a productive day at the office is to effectively prioritise your time. Obviously, we don’t recommend scheduling every minute of the day as you still need to take regular breaks to refresh the mind. Taking some time to make a rough plan for the day will reduce the possibility of procrastination.
Spend the first hour of your day going through your emails and checking your To-Do list. If you notice in quick 2-minute tasks then get them out of the way first. Any difficult tasks should be completed soon after, just to get through them as quickly as possible.
Opt for emails over meetings
Meetings are typically a massive time-waster. A great way to improve productivity and give you a few extra minutes in the working day is to limit the number of meetings you agree to take part in. If you think that decisions can be made over an email, phone call, or a passing conversation, then go with your gut and get on with your day.
