Your guide to making small offices spaces bigger

If you run a small business or startup, you may not have a lot of office space. You might run your business from small premises of your own or use a single floor of a larger office building. In either case, you’ll probably want to make your offices seem more spacious, as employees are generally happier and perform better if their environment doesn’t feel too boxed-in or claustrophobic. To help you, we’ve created a list of handy hints for making a small area seem spacious.

1. Have your offices painted a lighter colour

One of the simplest ways to make your office space appear larger is to repaint it. As all good interior decorators will tell you, lighter colours create a sense of airiness and spaciousness, so it’s worth repainting your offices in a light, tasteful hue. Here at SLP, however, we understand that it can take a long time to repaint an office space, even if it is quite small! Luckily, we offer painting and decorating as part of our office fit-out service. We can repaint your office quickly and efficiently.

2. Replace dividing walls with partitions

Dividing walls take up more floor space than you might imagine, due to their thickness. They also look solid and create an enclosed atmosphere. Ergo, removing them can make your office-space seem much larger. In order to preserve employee privacy, you can replace them with partitions. If you want to know how to install partitions in a modestly-sized office without creating a sense of clutter or enclosure, you can read our blog on the subject, entitled ‘3 tips for deploying partitions in smaller workplaces’. Why not call us and ask us about our range of partitions today?

3. De-clutter your office

Simply removing surplus equipment and detritus from your office space can make it seem much bigger. Sadly, this is the only tip on today’s list that we can’t help you with: we can refurbish your office and supply you with partitions and other space-saving accoutrements, but it’s up to you to decide what office items you need to get rid of!

4. Consider replacing your suspended ceiling with a new one

If you have a suspended ceiling, you may wish to consider replacing it with a new one. Suspended ceilings are stylish and practical. However, some are more effective than others at cultivating a sense of spaciousness. Darker-hued suspended ceilings that hang quite low are obviously not going to make your office seem larger. You should talk to us about our range of suspended ceilings and invest in a lighter-hued one that can be suspended at a reasonable height.

If you follow these four straightforward tips, you should be able to make your small office space seem positively palatial. We offer office refurbishment, partitions and suspended ceilings in Bristol, Bath, Swindon, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Wells, Gloucester and the south-west. If you live in any of these areas, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
